Opto-Mechanical Engineering Technician
Photon Control R&D develops robust products employing
photonics science for measurement and control of
industrial systems and processes. Our products range from fiber optic temperature and pressure sensors, to optical gas flow meters, silicon wafer scanners, position
sensors, spectrometers, and elemental sulfur analyzers.
We are looking for a dependable team player who can be an effective contributor in a fast paced environment. As a key member of the research and
development team, the chosen candidate will support engineering activities on the development of new and innovative products while continuing to
improve those already in production. This is a junior level engineering or technologist with heavy emphasis on technical writing and documentation
support. The chosen candidate must be technically proficient and is expected to contribute directly with hands-on assembly and testing of prototypes
as well as completion of detailed product design and manufacturing documentation.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Assembly, calibrate, test and rework of products and prototype as per approved procedures
- Maintain proper documentation including assembly instructions and Bills of Materials to meet quality regulations
- Assist with the training of new and current co-workers of production line
- Occasionally working in the machine shop to fabricate jigs and prototype parts
- Continuously improve the product, process and environment through suggestions, initiative and teamwork
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Technician Diploma in Mechanics, aptitude for optical assembly is essential
- 3 or more years experience building precision mechanical products
- Excellent manual dexterity and ability to work with small precision components
- Experience handling and understanding of opto-electronic devices
- Excellent eyesight with the ability to work for extended periods using a microscope
- Proficient with computer office software like Microsoft Word & Excel
- Excellent English communication skills, responsible, self-motivated and team player
- Attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
Assets for this position:
- Familiarity with operation of light source, light meters, power supplies, frequency analyzers and oscilloscopes
- Familiarity with operation of basic mechanical fabrication tools
- Experience with MRP systems
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 or other formal quality assurance programs
